Why should a UFO get within three mks of ISoonbase then destroy itself? On investigation, Ed Straker and Paul Foster find nothing except to members of an interceptor crew. Conroy and Dale. carrying with them a strange diamond shaped rock. But these are no ordinary crew Members. Once inside the control spoere they go berserk, shooting al random, apparently seeing things which do not exist. Both are killed in the ensuing mayhem, but the madness spreads. Suddenly Captain leaver James of SHOO turns on his own men...

After being In a coma for ten years, Catherine Boss awakens to a nightmare. As her memories return, Catherine pieces together a disastrous set of images: a bomb on a very slow rise. a Mend falling to his death and Strakers car knocking her into unconsclousness...

As Straker questions her, the questions become clearer and more frightening • where is the bomb? Where did the dead man come beck to life? What is Strakark involvement?

Commander Straker seems to have gone mad. Astonished members at SHADS reel as he smashes equipment, strikes Paul Foster and, apparently deranged, disappears. When a dead body is found. Straker is the obvious suspect. But on his return SHOO is silent and motionless. Why does time appear to be standing still and how is this mysterious state al affairs linked to his outburst?
