This programme portrays over 20 rail transport systems on the Isle of Man. Gauges include 21, 3ft, 3ft bin, 4ft, Standard Gauge, 5ft and 7ft. The horse, steam locomotive, petrol, diesel, water and cable traction combine to make the Manx railways unique. 1930's, 1960's and 1990's footage illustrates the history behind today's railway systems.

The Island of Transport Delights An introduction to the Island's railways precedes a study of Douglas and the lost tram and rail routes of the town Scenes of today contrast with early photographs, subjects include the Douglas Southern Electric Tramway, Funiculars and the Douglas Holiday Camp Escalator.

Manx Steam - Douglas to Port Erin A review of the Isle of Man Railway route over a 60 year period using archive footage from 1937 lost for thirty years. Compare the scenes of Douglas in the thirties with the railway in decline in 1961 and the Lord Ailsa period. 1990's views of Loch, G.H. Wood, Maitland, Hutchinson and Kissack are inter-cut with the archive scenes.

Manx Steam - Peel, Foxdale and Ramsey The 10.M. Railway route from Douglas to Peel, and the Manx Northern lines from St Johns to Foxdale and Ramsey. Stunning archive footage on Tynwald Day at St Johns in 1937 and on the Foxdale branch is among the highlights. 1960's scenes and the occasional modern comparison view take you on a varied trip along the lost 3ft gauge steam lines. Rare archive photographs are used to illustrate some of the more unusual neighbouring railways en route including the Knockaloe branch and the Peel Brickworks Flangeway

Tramlines - Douglas to Groudle The alternative route to Ramsey, via Horse Tram and the Manx Electric Railway. We start at Derby Castle enjoying a trip along Loch promenade "through the years' and visit the Corporation Stables. Arriving back at Derby Castle the journey continues to Groudle on the M.E R. after another depot visit.

A Steam Interlude - Groudle Glen A walk through the picturesque Groudle Glen leads to one of the Island's most remarkable railway survivors. The Groudle Glen Railway was resurrected in 1982. Tony Beard gives an insight to the railway using more previously unseen archive and Sea Lion on the regular service train of today.

Tramlines - Groudle to Ramsey via Snaefell) Northwards from Groudle to the tram interchange at Laxey, the Lady Isabella and a return trip to Snaefell Summit (2036ft). We rejoin the Manx Electric Railway for a trip to Ramsey and the now closed Queen's Pier tramway.

1993 - The Year of Railways The railways of the Isle of Man benefited from a massive boost during a year of celebrations in the Manx Electric Railway centenary year. Highlights include Loch on the M.E.R., car numbers 1 and 2 in parallel, the illuminated tramcar, the return of G.H. Wood. double-headers on the Port Erin line and the first steaming of former Groudle Glen locomotive Polar Bear.
