1962, Rockport - a small fishing town in Maine. When Andre, an adorable newborn seal is tragically orphaned, the frightened and ailing pup is adopted by an animal-loving family. Harbour master Harry Whitney (KEITH CARRADINE), and his wife (CHELSEA FIELD) and three children, already have a menagerie of household pets. Toni (TINA MAJORINO - When a Man loves A Woman, Corrina Corrina), a seven year old tomboy, nurses Andre back to health, and they become devoted friends. Toni and her father even teach the quick-learning seal wondrous tricks that attract the attention of the local media, and bring new-found fame to the town. But as the affection for Andre grows, he becomes the target of angry fishermen who blame a poor fishing season on seals chewing through their nets.
