Take that nice guy from the family in the villa opposite, for example, All he wanted was a quiet, relaxing holiday in the sun. So how come Victor's got himdiving off cliffs like some recruit for Baywatch? Of that intrepid journalist, Martin Trout. One minute he's on Victoria station, film in hand, the story of a lifetime in his soon-to-berich grasp, the next he's trapped in a Portuguese wardrobe, helpless and scoopless.

And that's only the start of all the holiday fun. What about the severed foot found in the barracuda's stomach? Is it really all that's left of Mrs Warboys? And what about Afonso's first wife - did she really fall off that cliff or was she pushed? And talking of pushing - how far can Victopush Margaret before she cracks under the strain?

Suddenly, the occasion of the last Meldrew holiday when they returned to England to find their house demolished, seems rather tame by comparison...
