Dispatched to retrieve a disgraced Vulcan ambassador who is being expelled from an alien world, Archer is disturbed by T'Pol's abrasive manner towards her former hero. Following an assault on Enterprise by the aliens, Archer decides to return the ambassador, provoking another uncharacteristic reaction from his science officer.

Invited to a desert-like planet by a grateful local leader whose ship they have repaired, Archer and Trip find themselves recruited to help their host in a violent planetary civil war. Although the pair make their escape into the wilderness, the desert proves to be their most deadly adversary.
