Award-winning playwright Lynda La Plante and acclaimed character actress Helen Mirren combine again for the third series of this award winning drama produced by Granada Television.

Dci is now heading the Vice Squad, working CI Jane Tennison (Helen Mirren) is a high-ranking policewoman with her old adversary Sgt. Bill Otley (Tom Bell) and charged with cleaning up Soho's murky underworld of prostitutes, rent boys and runaway children.

Acharred body of a rent-boy is discovered in the burnt-out flat of a victim was unconscious but alive at the time of the fire. More facts emerge: someone called an ambulance to the flat that night. The fire was certainly started deliberately. Vice Squad or not, Tennison finds herself leading her team on a complex homicide case taking them into the vice underworld of paedophiles, pornographic photography, transvestites and sickening abuse. Tennison has her prime suspect: Jimmy Jackson, played by David Thewlis, winner of Best Actor at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival for 'Naked'.
