Four guests, all staying at the San Francisco Hilton appear to have nothing in common - or do they? Aside from the fact that they are all a little strange - they happen to own identical travelling cases. Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand) is a perennial student who changes colleges with the frequency that other girls change their boyfriends. Her case contains a night gown and an encyclopedia. Howard Bannister (Ryan O'Neil) is an eccentric young professor, who for reasons no one sane can understand, becomes the subject of Judy's attention. His case contains a collection of ancient rocks. The other cases belong to Mrs. Van Hoskins - her case is stuffed with jewellery, and Mr Smith's holds top secret government documents. Naturally, the bags get mixed up and the ensuing result are one hilarious situation after another, including one of the most celebrated chase sequences in modern cinema. What's Up Doc? has it all: non-stop action, improbable romance and great performances!
