Heat focuses its rays on the inmates of a Hollywood motel, run by a predatory proprietress. Joe Dallesandro is a virile former child star forever waiting for work in the Studios. He is pestered by a bizarre group of women: there is a lesbian-inclined unmarried mother, daughter of a man-hungry ex-movie queen (SYLVIA MILES) who takes over the pursuit. The establishment's gross "madam" is an interested party as well. Incidental characters include a pair of boys who work in a stage sex show and the ex-movie queen's camp husband-producer.

The ladies contend viciously but with little success for Joe's half-hearted affections; even a jealous attempt to murder Joe is ineffectual when the gun doesn't go off.

Heat was shot on location in Hollywood and constitutes one of the most telling tales of the fabled fountainhead of cinema.
