Brum, a Miniature Historical Car

 Brum, a Miniature Historical Car

Brum is a miniature historical car from the 1920s that is full of wonder and enjoyment. He's sometimes innocent, sometimes mischievous, but he's always a favorite of the kids.

Brum, who is too little to walk on the road, has a child's perspective on the pathways and byways in his explorations. His worldly interests may lead him to all kinds of adventures, from rescuing a young girl to taking center stage at the opera. There is, however, always a happy ending!

Brum: A British Children's Television Show with a Car

Brum commonly known as The Adventures of Brum, is a British children's television programme that follows the adventures of a little, intelligent antique car. Toyah Willcox initially narrated the series and supplied the voice for Brum and all the characters. Five seasons of the program aired between 1991 and 2002, with two CGI revivals debuting in 2016. The program debuted on BBC One's children's block, Children's BBC (CBBC).

Set in Birmingham, England and produced by Ragdoll Productions, Brum debuted in 1991 and aired its last live-action season in 2002. It was first directed, written, and produced by Anne Wood, and initially narrated by Toyah Willcox, who also lent her voice to Brum and all the other characters. From the third to the fifth series, all of the characters, including Brum, remained quiet, with the exception of automobile sounds. In lieu of the previous story format, the storyteller offered commentary. In 2016, a new CGI-animated series targeted towards young pre-schoolers was developed.

The model car in the series

Brum is the story of a miniature, sentient replica automobile who, when his owner is not looking, wanders out into Big Town and engages in various adventures. Each episode starts and concludes in the same manner, with Brum abandoning the other automobiles at the motor museum while the owner is not looking and departing to explore Big Town before returning home. Each series has its own unique soundtrack. From series 1 to 2, the introductory music was the same, however various instruments were utilized in series 2. From Series 3 through 5, Nigel P. Harris directed a new title sequence and the music got jazzier.

The car can express itself mechanically by opening and shutting its doors and hood, bobbing its suspension, flashing, and swiveling. In Brum, the characters do not talk; instead, mime and off-screen narration move the plot. Therefore, it was simple to create episodes for showing in other nations, and the series has been shown in several countries and languages.

A Novelty of a Late-1920s Austin 7 Chummy Car

Numerous authors collaborated to create the show. The first series was written mostly by Anne Wood, but the second was written by Tom Poole, Dirk Campbell, Andrew Davenport, and Morgan Hall. The previous two seasons were written by Nigel P. Harris (5 Episodes) and the Ragdoll writing staff.

Rex Garrod designed and built the vehicle, a reproduction of a late-1920s Austin 7 Chummy convertible in one-half scale. The opening and closing parts of the show were shot at the Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, where it is now located.
